Writing ESSAY is a window to your thought process. An essay should be for a general person and not a subject expert. The Essay Paper is sometimes overlooked by candidates thinking that all they have to do is write on a topic from material that they have learnt for the general studies papers.
KEY TIPS
- Choose your topic wisely.
- After subject determination or topic selection, conceptualize for feed material like watchwords, examples, models, representations, illustrations, contextual investigations, case studies, facts, figures and findings etc.
- Also, think about the past, present and future scenarios related to the topic.
- Arrange your ideas properly and not commit any fundamental spelling or grammatical errors.
- Structure your essay properly with the introduction, main body and a forward-looking conclusion.
- Your introduction should be impressive. Include striking quotes or illustrations here. Also, it should outline your essay and tell the reader what to expect on reading further.
- Note down good lines from Newspapers and you can use them in your essay.
- Keep your language simple. Use short sentences and small paragraphs.
- If you want to use complex definitional terms, please define it in the sentence just before you use it.
- There is no need to memorise complex words for writing a good essay. But an occasional use of a powerful word or a good phrase definitely gives your write-up an edge.
- If demand, provide examples, include government schemes and various current policies and plans in your essay.
- Try to cover the social, economic, political, cultural, legal, international and humanistic perspectives of the topic.
- There should be a definite flow to the essay.
- The essay should reflect your vision and thoughts rather than show your insight.
- Prepare some general topics related to current updates. (Must prepare about – education, women, healthcare, internet, technology, democracy, etc.)
- One should practice writing at least 2 essays per week. Must be practiced on multiple topics.
MUST AVOID THINGS
- Do not focus excessively only on one point/dimension.
- Write what is asked, not what you know or feel like.
- Do not select unpopular topic.
- Avoid highly unpopular opinions.
