Artificial Bio Organs

(Ministry of Commerce & Industry)

WHAT

In order to strengthen Indo-Australian Cooperation and achieve development of 3D printing industry in both the countries, Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) has recently organized a one-day workshop on Organ Bio Printing at the Kalam Convention Center, AMTZ Campus in Visakhapatnam.

PURPOSE OF WORKSHOP

The workshop explored 3D printing, an innovative technology that covers all medical disciplines and offers new opportunities in diagnostics and therapy.

From diagnostic visualization to surgical planning, patient-specific models provide an added value for patients and physicians.

BIO HARMONISED AIDS FOR REHABILITATION AND TREATMENT (BHARAT)

It is a new initiative to develop at least 10 organs by 3D Bioprinting.

ARTIFICIAL ORGAN

An artificial organ is an engineered device or tissue that is implanted or integrated into a human — interfacing with living tissue — to replace a natural organ, to duplicate or augment a specific function or functions so the patient may return to a normal life as soon as possible.

The replaced function does not have to be related to life support, but it often is. For example, replacement bones and joints, such as those found in hip replacements, could also be considered artificial organs.

ANDHRA PRADESH MED TECH ZONE (AMTZ)

With Andhra Pradesh Med Tech Zone (AMTZ) setting up one of the largest 3D printing facilities in the world, the initiative is all set to develop artificial organs through 3D Bio Printing under the Bio Harmonised Aids for Rehabilitation and Treatment (BHARAT) programme to boost diagnostics and therapy.

Established in 2017 in Visakhapatnam, AMTZ – India’s first medical device park is a flagship project of the Government of Andhra Pradesh to manufacture indigenous medical technology products in the country and make healthcare accessible to the common man.

3D PRINTING

3D printing is an innovative technology that encompasses all medical disciplines and offers new opportunities in diagnostics and therapy. From diagnostic visualization to surgical planning patient-specific models will provide an added value for patients and physicians as part of the initiative.
