Indian Army successfully test-fired the newly-acquired Spike anti-tank guided missiles.
Spike LR, a fourth-generation fire-and-forget anti-tank guided missile, has been designed and developed by Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.
Key Highlights
- Spike LR is a fourth-generation fire-and-forget anti-tank guided missile developed by Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.
- Spike LR can engage a target with precision at ranges up to four km.
- India is the 33rd country to procure the Spike missile from Israel.
- Spike-LR can be installed on light combat vehicles and can also be used to target tanks, armoured vehicles, hardened shelters and low flying targets such as helicopters.
- India has acquired 240 spike missiles from Israel after the Balakot operations.
- The missile has an inbuilt seeker, which gives the firer the flexibility to use any of two modes: Day (CCD) and Night (IIR).
