Chinook Helicopters

WHAT

The Indian Air Force formally inducted the CH 47 F(I)- Chinook heavy lift helicopters into its inventory at Air Force Station Chandigarh.

• Maximum carrying capacity of 45 troops and 11 tonnes payload.

FUNCTIONS

• Chinook will be used to move troops, artillery, ammunition, barrier materials, supplies and equipment on the bettlefield.
• Apart from military operations, they can also be used for medical evacuation, disaster relief, search and recovery, fire-fighting and civil development.

NAME CHINOOK

It get its name from a warm and dry wind chinook in the interior west of North America.
