WHAT
Arani Silk Saree produced on handloom is of high quality and in good demand.
- Arani is a town in Tiruvanamalai district in Tamil Nadu.
- The silks from the town of Arani in Tiruvannamalai are equally famous as the Kanjivaram.
- The sarees are woven with mulberry silk in warp and weft, with or without too much Zari.
- The highlight of an Arani pattu is the “thazamboo” border motif.
HANDLOOM MARKETING FACILITY SCHEME
- The government of India is implementing a Handloom Marketing Assistance (HMA)scheme, for providing marketing facilities to all the handloom products including Arani Silk.
- The scheme is a component of the National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP).
- The scheme will provide a marketing platform to the handloom weavers/organizations to sell their products directly to the consumers.
- Under the scheme, financial assistance is provided to National Level Handloom Organisations.
- Central Silk Board through the Silk Mark Organisation of India is organizing “Silk Mark Expo” in various towns and cities.
- Silk Mark Expos provide an excellent platform to promote silk products of different silk clusters of India including the Arani cluster.
