WHAT

The government is planning to shift the Center of Excellence for Studies in Classical Telugu to one of the Telugu-speaking States.

  • Presently it is located in the Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysuru.
  • Proposals for temporary accommodation were sent to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

 

CENTRAL INSTITUTE OF INDIAN LANGUAGES

  • The institute was established to coordinate the development of India languages, to bring about the essential unity of India languages.
  • CIIL through scientific studies, Promote inter-disciplinary research and contribute to mutual enrichment of languages.
  • It also contributes to the emotional integration of the people of India.

 

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF CIIL

  • Advice and Assists Central as well as State Governments in the matters of language.
  • Contributes to the development of all Indian Languages by creating content and corpus.
  • Protects and Documents Minor, Minority and Tribal Languages.
  • Promotes Linguistic harmony by teaching 15 Indian languages to non-native learners.

 

LANGUAGE INFORMATION SERVICES OF INDIA

  • (LIS India)- Initial work through workshops and meetings of the experts has already commenced and the draft format for an expandable Information site in the public domain has been prepared.
  • The work is to be carried out in coordination with a number of university departments of linguistics.

 

BHASHA-BHARATI

  • It is proposed to set up ‘Bhasha-Bharati’ at Mysore.
  • It is in collaboration with Sahitya Academy, NBT and a number of other agencies such as channels, and newspaper houses and individual collectors, as a national level resource centre which will house manuscripts, typescripts, notes, correspondences, including un-published and/or incomplete works of modern masters of Indian languages and contemporary writers of India who have lived and written during the period beginning 1947.
