Army Launches Electric Car to Combat Pollution

WHAT
The Indian Army has launched an ecological initiative with employing E-Cars for use of its officials in New Delhi.
- Mahindra e-Verito is launched in partnership with Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL).
- EESL has been the main facilitator in providing these vehicles to various Government agencies.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Army plans to operate the first batch of 10 E-Cars as a pilot project and develop further on this initiative and increase the number of E Cars in Delhi to ensure economy, efficiency and minimal emissions.
- Electric vehicle technology has proved to be a viable alternative by reducing the carbon emission footprint.
BACKGROUND
The introduction of E-Car in the Army at Delhi was visualized on World Environment Day.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY SERVICES LIMITED (EESL)
- Energy Efficiency Services Limited is a joint venture of four national Public-Sector Undertakings:
- National Thermal Power Corporation Limited
- Power Finance Corporation Limited
- Rural Electrification Corporation Limited
- POWERGRID Corporation of India Limited
- EESL leads the market-related activities of the National Mission for Enhanced Energy Efficiency (NMEEE), one of the eight national missions under the National Action Plan on Climate Change.
- It was founded in 2009.
- EESL has reduced India’s carbon footprint, peak energy demand, and electricity bills through energy efficiency intervention projects.
