Landslides Risk Reduction and Resilience-2019

WHAT
National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) organised the 1st International Conference on “Landslides Risk Reduction and Resilience-2019″
The conference called for developing the technology to anticipate disasters like landslides and develop infrastructure to quickly respond to minimise the damage.
Landslides effect loss of infrastructures-roads, buildings, bridges, communication systems etc. on the other, they may cause huge havoc on communities, livestock, environment leading to huge loss of lives.
DISASTER MANAGEMENT ACT, 2005
- The Act provides for the effective management of disasters and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. It extends to the whole of India.
- The Act calls for the establishment of the National Disaster Management Authority, with the Prime Minister of India as chairperson.
- The NDMA is responsible for “laying down the policies, plans and guidelines for disaster management” and to ensure “timely and effective response to the disaster”. Under section 6 of the Act it is responsible for laying “down guidelines to be followed by the State Authorities in drawing up the State Plans”.
