WHAT
The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has issued a draft notification to amend Central Motor Vehicle Rules, allowing motor vehicles and their parts & components to be affixed with permanent and nearly invisible microdots.
Microdots can be read physically with a microscope and identified with an ultraviolet light source.
MICRODOT TECHNOLOGY
- Microdot technology involves spraying the body and parts of the vehicle or any other machine with microscopic dots, which give a unique identification.
- The use of this technology will help check the theft of vehicles and also the use of fake spare parts.
- The microdots and adhesive will become permanent fixtures/affixation which cannot be removed without damaging the vehicles.
MICRODOT
- A microdot is a text or an image substantially reduced in size onto a small disc to prevent detection by unintended recipients.
- The dots, which are less than 1 mm across, are carried in an adhesive that fluoresces under UV light.
- It’s a simple matter then to identify a treated area and recover one of the dots for viewing under a special magnifier, which reveals the dot’s number.
- MicroDots can be used to secure equipment, tools, and household items. They have also been successfully used to secure plants in public gardens against theft.
WAY AHEAD
The notification says that the microdots, if affixed, will have to comply with AIS 155 requirements.
