MoU between Indian Space Research Organisation and Bolivian Space Agency

WHAT

The Union Cabinet has given its ex-post facto approval to the Memorandum of Understanding signed between India and Bolivia on Cooperation in the Exploration and Uses of Outer Space for Peaceful Purposes.

• The MoU was signed between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Bolivian Space Agency.

 

SIGNIFICANCE

MoU shall enable potential interest area of cooperation such as:

• Space science, technology, and applications including remote sensing of the earth
• Satellite communication and satellite-based navigation
• Space science and planetary exploration
• Use of spacecraft and space systems and ground system
• Application of space technology

 

IMPLEMENTATION

The MoU would lead to set up Joint Working Group, to work out the plan of action including the time-frame and the means of implementing.

 

IMPACT

Provide impetus to explore newer research activities and application possibilities in the field of:

• remote sensing of the earth
• satellite communication
• satellite navigation
• space science and planetary exploration

 

BOLIVIAN SPACE AGENCY

• It is the national space agency of Bolivia.
• It was established in 2010.
• The agency is responsible for developing and implementing communications satellite programs and other space projects.

 

INDIAN SPACE RESEARCH ORGANISATION

• The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is the space agency of the Government of India.
• It is headquartered in the city of Bengaluru.
• Its vision is to harness space technology for national development while pursuing space science research and planetary exploration.
