- Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has launched the Fit India Campaign on the occasion of Sports Day.
“Aatma indriya mann swastha, swastha iti avdhiyate” According to this sholka from Charakh Sanhita, one who has his heart, soul, body fit is the one who is actually fit.
As per the World Health Organisation, being physically, mentally and socially fit is the sign of being healthy. But in this hectic life due to a shortage of time, one is actually not realising the importance of being fit and this is the only reason for all the kind of illness in peoples. Also, this is responsible for all the sudden deaths of citizens of the country. Being fit is not only keeps us away from diseases but also helps in improving the economic and social status of the country.
Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has launched the Fit India Campaign on the occasion of Sports Day. Its only aim is to make peoples of the country aware. PM discussed the importance of Yoga and exercise in one’s life, he also requested every individual of the country to have the mantra in their life which as, “Country is fit if and only I am fit”. Fitness is not only the word but the necessity of a healthy and prosperous life. He also added Fit India movement is an important step in the development of the country. It has zero investment but has unlimited returns.
“Health is Wealth”, as being said health is very important for everyone. If one is not healthy, then the country can never be healthy. A healthy body can only have the sound mind, this is the main reason why the Prime Minister has taken such crucial steps on the occasion of Sports Day to come forward for the Fit India Campaign.
Why the “Fit India Campaign” is important for the country?
A fit body is a source to lead healthy and prosperous life. In today’s time, the hectic schedules of peoples making them unhealthy day by day. Peoples have a lot of money but don’t have enough time to have proper diet, if someone takes the time out to have food then one aren’t having proper nutritious diet, also peoples are deprived of their healthy sleeping schedule, also peoples spend whole day only sitting but don’t have even 15 minutes to do any physical exercise. These all the problems, every individual is facing in daily life.
As per the recent surveys held, the crucial diseases which peoples are suffering from can be cured by the some physical exercises and the yoga.
As per the World Health Organisation reports, 95 Lakh and 65 thousands of peoples died in 2016 due to the diseases. Out of them, 63% deaths were due to non-infectious diseases. 27% peoples were suffering from cardiovascular diseases, 9% peoples were suffering from cancer, 11% were suffering from serious breathing problems, 3% were from diabetes, whereas 13% peoples were suffering from all other diseases. 26% peoples died due to infectious diseases, hereditary diseases, and due to lack of nutritious food and water.
As per the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation:
- Most of the deaths in the year 2017 were due to the heart diseases
- Diseases like Heart diseases, Stroke, Diarrhoea, Lower respiratory infection, Tuberculosis, Asthma, Diabetes and Chronic kidney diseases are the main causes for the maximum number of deaths
- These diseases are also responsible for sudden deaths
- Deficiency of iron in food, headaches, lower back pain, eye disorders, diabetes are causing peoples disabled in a large number
- Some researchers also proved that taking some time out of busy schedules; one can remain fit and healthy for long life. A sport not only is beneficial from the health point of view but also has great career options. Our Government is now promoting the sports trying to provide every possible help to athletes.

- Develops the feeling of healthy competition in children, they learn to give their best in every field
- Learns the capabilities of patience and strategies
Famous sports in India are Cricket, Football, Hockey, Tennis, Badminton, etc. Traditional sports include Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Kushti, etc. Even our country performed well in Kushti wheres Kabaddi nowadays is being played on national level in India. Still, India lacks in some sports then other countries except Cricket. Football, Gymnastics, Swimming, Football still doesn’t have country’s name anywhere on the top. Tennis and Badminton are the popular sports in India after Cricket. Large group of companies sponsor these events, even sport persons earn handsome amount of money in these sports. These are the benefits due to which sport person takes more interest in these sports.
According to the report, government spends only 3 paisa per person in sports due to which people got afraid to make their career in sports. America spends rupees 22 per day on its each and every sport person whereas Britain spends 50 paisa only. Small country like Jamaica spends 19 paisa on its sport persons.
As per the Sports Budget, there is a budget allocated of rupees 2,216 crores for the sport persons and their sports.
