PRADHAN MANTRI KISAN SAMMAN NIDHI

WHAT

All landholder farmers’ families in the country are eligible for the PM-Kisan Scheme, except those covered under the following exclusion criteria:

  • All Institutional Landholders
  • Former and present holders of constitutional posts
  • All serving or retired officers and employees of Central/ State Government
  • All superannuated/retired pensioners
  • All Persons who paid Income Tax in the last assessment year.

 

PRADHAN MANTRI KISAN SAMMAN NIDHI SCHEME

  • PM KISAN is a Central Sector scheme with 100% funding from the Government of India.
  • It has become operational from 1.12.2018.
  • Under the scheme, income support of Rs.6000/- per year in three equal installments will be provided to small and marginal farmer families having combined land holding/ownership of up to 2 hectares
  • The definition of the family for the scheme is husband, wife and minor children.
  • State Government and UT Administration will identify the farmer families which are eligible for support as per scheme guidelines.
  • The fund will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.

 

OBJECTIVE

  1. To augment the income of the Small and Marginal Farmers (SMFs)
  2. To supplement the financial needs of the SMFs in procuring various inputs to ensure proper crop health and appropriate yields.
  3. Protect them from falling in the clutches of moneylenders for meeting such expenses and ensure their continuance in the farming activities.

 

DEFINITION OF FAMILIES

The SMFs landholder farmer family is defined as “a family comprising of husband, wife and minor children who collectively own cultivable land up to 2 hectares as per land records of the concerned State/UT”.

 

MONITORING OF THE SCHEME

  • For effective review and monitoring of the scheme, a Project Monitoring Unit (PMU) at Central level will be set up in the Department of Agriculture Cooperation & Farmers Welfare.

  • At the National level, there will be a Monitoring Committee headed by Cabinet Secretary.
  • State Government shall also notify the Monitoring Committees at the State & the District Level.
