Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission

WHAT

The Union Minister of Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare inaugurated a one day workshop on experience sharing under Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission (SPMRM).

 

SHYAM PRASAD MUKHERJI RURBAN MISSION

  • SPMRM focuses on cluster-based integrated development through Geospatial Planning for the holistic development of the region while encouraging innovation and integrated and inclusive rural development.
  • SPMRM would improve the living condition of rural areas.
  • SPMRM would bring in development based vision of reducing the rural-urban divide.
  • Apart from infrastructural development through the mission, the programme has also helped in increasing the income of the population through economic activity generation initiatives like Agro-processing, bakery industries, garments manufacturing, e-rickshaw services, agri-equipment bank.
  • It is a centrally sponsored scheme, funding between centre and the state in a ratio of 60:40 for Plain area States and 90:10 for Himalayan and NE States.

 

AIM

SPMRM aims to provide well planned basic amenities along with economic development activities. The mission has an objective for the comprehensive development of 300 clusters.

 

OBJECTIVE

Providing:

  1. Basic amenities: 24/7 water supply to all households, Solid and Liquid Waste Management facilities, provision of Inter and Intra village roads, adequate street lights and public transport facilities using green technologies.
  2. Economic Amenities: Agri Services and Processing, Tourism, and Skill development to promote Small and Medium Scale Enterprises.

 

HOW TO REDUCE RURAL-URBAN DIVIDE

  • Providing employment, education and basic amenities.
  • Should emphasis on skill development.
  • Employment generative skill development.
  • Maintaining a proper hygienic and healthy environment.
  • Improved sanitation facilities and cleanliness.
  • Make rural population aware of their rights.
  • Sarpanchs act as a link between the Rural population and the government of India.
  • Well planned development
  • Improved basic infrastructure facilities
