What

  • Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), are oriented towards transforming the housing sector.
  • Government is making it simpler for individuals to purchase houses, through tax and other incentives.
  • Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, has improved consumers’ confidence in developers and brought transparency in the Real Estate Sector.
  • Construction sector is now much more focused on disaster-resilience, energy efficiency, and local innovation.

Global Housing Technology Challenge is a platform that can help elevate India’s construction ecosystem to international standards.

Smart India Hackathon

  • It is the biggest Open Innovation Model at the national level.
  • India is today, the third biggest Start-Up Nation.
  • Indian economy is growing rapidly, and the country is setting new benchmarks in innovation.
  • It is the world’s largest digital national building initiative.
  • It was launched by Union Ministry of Human Resource Development.
  • It aims to find digital solutions by harnessing creativity and technical expertise form students of technology institutes in remotest parts of India.

7th Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Intersessional Ministerial Meeting

  • The Ministers from the 16 RCEP Participating Countries (RPCs) attended the meeting.
  • Meeting held on 2 March 2019 in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Joint Statements issued during meeting

  • RCEP has consented to heighten continuous negotiations for a mega trade agreement to determine all issues and conclude the discussions this year.
  • All Ministers resolved to exert utmost effort to achieve the target of concluding negotiations this year.
  • To make sure progress in 2019, the ministers agreed to intensify engagement for the remaining of the year.
  • More intersessional meetings are to be expected in the year 2019.

The Ministers agreed to meet next at the [8th RCEP Intersessional Ministerial Meeting to be held after the 27th RCEP Trade Negotiation Committee Meeting and Related Meetings in July/August 2019] [7th RCEP Ministerial Meeting in September 2019].

RCEP bloc includes 10 countries of ASEAN (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam) and their six free trade pact partners namely Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea and New Zealand.
