News Flash

An Agri-Business Incubation Centre has been set up in the Indira Gandhi Agriculture University of Raipur in Chhattisgarh.

  • It has is up under the National Agriculture Development Scheme- RAFTAAR.
  • The centre is set up by the Union Agriculture Ministry

 

Objective

To make farming a remunerative economic activity by strengthening farmer’s effort, risk mitigation and promoting agribusiness entrepreneurship.

 

Agri-Business Incubation Centre

  • The Agri-Business Incubation Centre, focus on innovations, skill building and entrepreneurs development in agriculture and allied sectors.
  • The centre will act as a catalyst for developing an ecosystem conducive for the growth of agripreneurship in the state.
  • It will also foster a “start-up” culture.

 

National Agriculture Development Scheme- RAFTAAR

  • Also known as Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana- Remunerative Approaches for Agriculture and Allied sector Rejuvenation (RKVY-RAFTAAR).
  • RKVY scheme was initiated in 2007 as an umbrella scheme.
  • It ensures the holistic development of agriculture and allied sectors.
  • It allows states to choose their own agriculture and allied sector development activities.
  • Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) is a continuing scheme under implementation from the XI Five Year Plan.
  • It is converted into a Centrally Sponsored Scheme in 2014-15 also with 100% central assistance.
  • The scheme provides guidance, technology and infrastructure to youth and entrepreneurs for start-ups in different areas of agriculture.
  • The Scheme will incentivize States in enhancing more allocation to the Agriculture and Allied Sectors.
  • This will further promote agri-entrepreneurship and support business models that maximize returns to farmers.
  • In 2017, the cabinet approved Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana as RKVY- Remunerative Approaches for Agriculture and Allied Sector Rejuvenation for three years i.e. 2017-18 to 2019-20
