‘Nadu-Nedu’ programme

‘Nadu-Nedu’ programme was launched for state run schools in Andhra Pradesh to introduce English medium from classes 1 to 6, which seeks to transform government schools into vibrant and competitive institutions.

In the first phase, the ‘Nadu-Nedu’ programme will be implemented in 15,715 schools. It will cover all schools in three years.

Aim

  • To transform the government schools with required infrastructure and up- gradation of skills besides setting up English labs.
  • It also seeks to provide basic amenities such as clean water, furniture, compound wall, toilets etc.

Criticism

A language war has erupted in Andhra Pradesh. In this age of rapid globalization, the detractors, primarily the Opposition, has argued that the state should stick to Telugu to protect itself from cultural degradation, else it would endanger the regional language’s survival.

Other measures being taken by Andhra Pradesh govt to transform education

  1. Amma Vodi will be introduced on January 9, 2020, where the Andhra Pradesh government will incentivize the mother for sending their children to school and continue till intermediate.
  2. Fees reimbursement will be taken up in a big way in all degree and professional colleges and there will be one-year apprenticeship for the youth to gear up for the jobs.
  3. This apart, a Skill Development University will be set up and under its umbrella, all 25 Skill Development Centres will function to have an interface with education and industry.
