DEVICE TO TRAP OCEAN PLASTIC WASTE
A floating device designed to catch plastic waste has been redeployed in a second attempt to clean up an island in the Pacific Ocean between California and Hawaii.
- This is a 2,000-foot long floating boom.
- The device is fitted with solar-powered lights, cameras, sensors and satellite antennas.
- With these devices, it intends to communicate its location all the time.
- The plastic barrier with a tapered 10-foot-deep (3-meter-deep) screen is intended to act like a coastline, trapping some of the 1.8 trillion pieces of plastic.
