Operation Bandar – Indian Air Force Balakot Strike 25/06/2019 – Posted in: Daily News – Tags:

OPERATION BANDAR

The air strike by the Indian Air Force (IAF) on a terrorist training camp in Balakot, Pakistan, was code-named ‘Operation Bandar’.

  • The operation, titled ‘Bandar’, was IAF’s first strike inside Pakistan since the 1971 Indo-Pak war.
  • The ‘pre-emptive’ airstrikes were conducted 12 days after the terror outfit claimed responsibility for a suicide attack on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) convoy in Kashmir, killing at least 40 soldiers.
  • IAF had deployed 12 Mirage 2000 fighter jets for the attack.
  • The plan was to hit the Balakot terrorist facility with two separate types of munitions – Spice 2000 and the Crystal Maze.
  • The Spice 2000 air-droppable bomb is designed to penetrate structures before exploding. The Spice 2000 is a fire and forget weapon.
  • Crystal Maze is equipped to send a live video feed of the target as it is being struck. However, a low cloud cover on the night of the attack prevented the IAF from launching Crystal Maze.
