A nation-wide ‘Fit India Movement’ was launched On the occasion of ‘National Sports Day’- 29 August 2019.
Aim
- Healthy people, Healthy Family and Healthy Society is the aim of the movement.
- It will encourage people to inculcate physical activity and sports in their day to day life.
National Sports Day/ Rashtriya Khel Divas
August 29, observed the National Sports Day mark the birth anniversary of the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand (father of Sports in India) who was born on August 29, 1905.
Major Dhyan Chand
- Dhyan Chand was born on August 29, 1905, at Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh.
- The title “Chand” (Moon) was given by his first coach, who predicted that he would one day shine like chand (Moon).
- Chand joined the Indian Army at the age of 16 and took up hockey while he was still enrolled.
- Dhyan Chand was the leading goal-scorer at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics with 14 goals.
