India ranks 9th with a score of 77% on Happiness among 28 global markets.

 

About the Study

  • These are the findings of a 28-country Ipsos survey conducted via Ipsos’s Global Advisor online survey platform between May 24th and June 7th, 2019.
  • The sample consists individuals from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China (Mainland), France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, the United States, Argentina, Belgium, Chile, Colombia, Hungary, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden and Turkey.

 

Key Findings

  • Australia and Canada are tied at the top spot (at 86%).
  • China (83%), Great Britain (82%), France (80%), US (79%), Saudi Arabia (78%) and Germany (78%) – these are the eight markets preceding India.
  • For India, there’s been a 6% drop (from 83% in 2018 to 77% in 2019).
  • Argentina (34%), Spain (46%) and Russia (47%), emerged at the bottom of the heap, among the 28 markets.
  • It is also found that the markets with the highest prevalence of happiness are largely the developed nations.

 

What makes Indians happy?

The factors voted as most important in triggering happiness were:

  • Living conditions (89%)
  • Health/ physical well-being (88%)
  • Personal safety and security (88%)
  • Friends (87%)
  • Feeling in control of my life (86%)
  • Feeling my life has meaning (86%)
  • Hobbies/ interests (85%)
  • The well-being of my country (85%)

 

World Happiness Report 2019

  • It is a landmark survey of the global happiness that ranks 156 countries by how happy their citizens perceive themselves to be.
  • World Happiness Report of 2019 focuses on happiness and the community: how happiness has evolved over the past years, with a focus on the technologies, social norms, conflicts and government policies that have driven those changes.
  • This was the 7th World Happiness Report. The first was released in April 2012.
  • The world happiness report for 2019 has put Finland on the top spot on the most happiest country for the second consecutive year.
  • India has dropped down seven spots in the happiness rankings as compared to its 2018 ranking. The report saying with the increase in population, the overall happiness has dropped worldwide.
