Andhra Pradesh state assembly passed the ‘Andhra Pradesh Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions Bill 2020′. The bill provides for the establishment of three capital cities to usher in the decentralisation of development.
Three capitals
- Amaravati will be the legislative capital
- Visakhapatnam will be the executive capital
- Kurnool will be the judicial capital
Key Highlights
- The three-capital system is being adopted by state to ensure equal development throughout the Andhra Pradesh.
- The cities were recommended by the committees namely B.N.Sri Krishna Committee, G.N.Rao Committee and K.Sivaramakrishnan Committee.

- Maharashtra: Mumbai and Nagpur
- Himachal Pradesh: Shimla and Dharamshala
- J&K: Srinagar and Jammu
Important Information
In Sri Lanka, Jayawardenepura Kotte is the seat of the National legislature and is the official capital and Colombo is the seat of judicial bodies and national executives.
