National Day of Patriotism

 

The nation is paying homage to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his 123rd birth anniversary on 23rd January 2020. The day is also celebrated as National Day of Patriotism.

 

Subhash Chandra Bose

  • Born in Cuttack, Orissa on 23rd January 1897
  • Formed Azad Hind Fauj on  21 October 1943
  • Netaji died on 18th August 1945  in a plane crash
  • He completed his primary education from Cuttack and completed further studies from Calcutta University
  • He passed the I.C.S examination but joined the Non-Co-Operation Movement to fight for India’s independence.
  • In 1921, Bose met Mahatma Gandhi for the first time and called him Father of the Nation.
  • One of his famous quotes was, ‘Tum Mujhe Khoon Do, Main Tumhe Azadi Dunga.’
  • Netaji formed a separate army called the “Azad Hind Fauj”. It was also called the Indian National Army or the INA.

 

Netaji Temple

In order to commemorate Netaji’s birth anniversary, GoI is inaugurating a temple at Varanasi in the name of the leader with a Dalit woman as a chief priest. The temple is to be built in red, white and black colours.

  • The red colour symbolizes revolution.
  • The black colour represents strength.
  • The white colour represents for peace.
