Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria (GFTAM)

WHAT

India has announced a contribution of 22 million US Dollars to the Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria (GFTAM) for the 6th replenishment cycle (2020-22).

  • India stands firm to its commitment to eliminate AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.
  • Global Fund strongly demonstrates its strong political leadership to achieve universal health.

 

PARTNERSHIP: INDIA and GLOBAL FUND

  • India shares a sustained partnership with the Global Fund since 2002 both as a recipient and as a donor.
  • Global Fund support with investment in attaining targets related to HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria reduction.
  • In the current funding cycle (2018-21), the Global Fund has allocated US$ 500 million to India.
  • India has contributed US$ 46.5 million so far till 2019 including US$ 20 million for the 5th Replenishment.

 

GLOBAL FUND

  • It is an international financing and partnership organization.
  • Its secretariat is in Geneva, Switzerland.
  • The Global Fund was formed as an independent, non-profit foundation under Swiss law and hosted by the World Health Organization in January 2002.
  • The organization began operations in January 2002.
  • The Global Fund is the world’s largest financier of AIDS, TB, and malaria prevention, treatment, and care programs.
  • Global Fund is a financing mechanism rather than an implementing agency.
