National Education Day
November 11 is celebrated as National Education Day. This day is observed every year in India to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first Education Minister of independent India.
To take education to every doorstep of India, the government launched SWAYAM 2.0 programme, to provide the best teaching-learning resources to all.
November 11 every year, from 2008 onwards, will be celebrated as the National Education Day, without declaring it a holiday.
The day is also seen as an occasion to remember Azad’s contribution in laying the foundations of the education system in an independent India and evaluating and improving the country’s current performance in the field.
SWAYAM Programme
SWAYAM or Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds is a programme of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, that enables professors and faculties of centrally funded institutions like IITs, IIMs, the Central University Of Haryana to offer online courses to citizens of India.
SWAYAM, free online education was developed by MHRD and AICTE with the help of Microsoft.
