QUIT INDIA MOVEMENT

The 77th anniversary of the August Kranti Din, the historic day of freedom struggle of our country, is being observed on August 8.

On this date in 1942, Mahatma Gandhi gave a clarion call to end the British rule.
On the very same day, Mahatma Gandhi had launched the Quit India Movement at the session of the All-India Congress Committee in Mumbai.
After the failure of Cripps Mission, Gandhiji gave the call to Do or Die in his Quit India speech delivered at the Gowalia Tank Maidan in Mumbai.
Gowalia Tank Maidan in Mumbai today popularly known as August Kranti Maidan.
The Bharat Chhodo Andolan or the August Kranti of 1942 was a swan-song of British rule in India in the history of the Independence struggle.

Important Info

At that time, Aruna Asaf Ali hoisted the Indian Tricolour in the Gowalia Tank Maidan proudly. This was the first time when Indian Triclour was hoisted.
In 1992 Reserve Bank of India issued a 1 rupee commemorative coin to mark the Golden Jubilee of the Quit India Movement.
